Why Tiny?

6

A lot of people ask the question why build and live Tiny? The answer is simple… 2008. When the housing market crashed it left multitudes of families in a desperate situation. The butterfly effect this caused is still being measured today. The band aid thus far has been three or more generations now living in one home or many families having to pay an ever-increasing rent cost to achieve the new American dream…a simple roof over their head, (and of course, 100K Followers on Instagram).

Some innovative and unfearing men and women answered the call and began building Tiny. Not unlike Amerigo Vespucci heading out into the deep blue with a sexton and a flagon of wine to brave the unknown, Tiny Home builders have also proven themselves to be a courageous sort. There are no guarantees in life and certainly none in starting a new business.

I must take my hat off to the brave Tiny Home Builders who decided to answer the need for affordable, beautiful and safe housing that we can be proud of. I am always amazed when I think about the different types of Tiny Homes there are to choose from, so many varying rooflines and floorplans. Something for every taste and budget. I for one, am very grateful that we have the freedom to be and build as creatively as our imaginations will let us, and I am very excited to see what we all come up with in 2019!

The Christmas Conundrum

IMG_58251

So, I drove a couple of hours, this past weekend, to see a good friend of mine who was staying in St Petersburg, FL at a Tiny House Hotel. My friend flew down from Ohio to enjoy a vacation with her little girl, Fraya. They had such a great time going over to Disney and visiting all the beaches in late November. And of course, it’s always fun sending pictures back home where it was 33 degrees of them in shorts and t-shirts.

As I was enjoying some much overdue time with my friend, I was also getting a kick watching Fraya in the Tiny House. She was in awe of this Tiny creation, “God must have made this one especially for me because it’s Tiny too, like I am” she said. The Hotel had taken the time to decorate for the upcoming Holiday and it looked gorgeous. Fraya said “This Tiny House is so perfect I won’t even miss the snow”!

She was playing happily in the living room and, as she realized something, suddenly popped out onto the porch with a horrified expression on her face, you may have thought she saw a Tiny ghost! She said with a tremble in her voice “Mommy, how’s Santa going to give presents to boys and girls in Tiny Houses, there’s no chimney? Are they not going to get a Christmas?” Crocodile tears folks.

At this point I had no alternative, I had to do something…” Siri, call Santa”. Siri then said, “Turns out Santa likes the cold, not cold calls so much”. Crud, time for Plan B… quick act like you are emailing Santa and have my friend send me a response for Fraya, don’t forget to insert the Santa GIF. At this point I was able to announce the following information to a precious and very worried four-year-old little girl:

Announcing, “I have it on good authority, from the North Pole, that with a little magic, Santa will be using the vent pipe from the woodstove for his chimney this year, and if you don’t have one of those, he will use the Secondary Egress Window for delivering presents, it says so right here on his website”!

So, never fear Fraya, Santa has it covered. Whew.
